What 2021 is going to look like is still way up in the air but there are some emerging trends already that may well end up being part of the workplace for the foreseeable future:
Flexible Working Policies Needed for Remote Work
Business with a sizeable virtual workforce will see this trend continue at least through the first half of 2021. However, given the relative smoothness of the shift to virtual work that many businesses experienced in 2020, remote working may become a permanent option for many office workers. Schedules may no longer be constrained by the "9 to 5" world, and shift work may become the norm.
Implications for promotional products: Online stores to accommodate employee working different schedules may become a permanent solution for uniforms, company merchandise, BLAH BLAH BLAH
Employers May Need to Develop/Support Work-Related Technologies for Remote Workers, especially Gen Z Workers
At the onset of the pandemic, many employers were not prepared to provide the equipment, means and support to a newly remote workforce. As time has passed, IT and HR departments alike have gotten a better handle on needs and solutions. As technology evolves, though, expect changes! Employers will try to develop frontline digital technology such as mobile communication apps for remote workers and hands-free technology such as voice messaging and voice assistants for physical workers. Additionally, Generation Z's are the most tech-savvy, information-flexible generation in the American workforce; 90% of them have a smart phone! Employers will need to digitize, focusing on smart phones to utilize their strengths as they increasingly influence and even dominate the workforce.
Implications for promotional products: Many tech products can be branded, and can offer additional WHAT or comfort to the remote worker. Examples include headphones, mousepads, wrist GUARDS, flash drives, power banks, cell phone accessories BLAH BLAH BLAH
Creating or Sustaining Company Culture Will Become Increasingly Important
Company cultures will need evolve and possibly to be rejuvenated in 2021. Well-articulated and frequently expressed company culture can help employees feel a part of the company, even when they are working remotely.
Implications for promotional products: Personalized and logo item giveaways and thoughtful gifts can make employees feel included and valued. Why not send everyone a warm pullover or a stylish polo for "meetings" (make sure to raise that logo up a bit for visibility!) or an insulated mug or tumbler for their home office?
Regardless of when or how the pandemic ends, the business world may be changed for good. Stay on top of these changes, and let us help you keep your employees informed, motivated and happy!
